Post Canadian AGG
Canada was represented by two teams from Kalev at the World Championships in Moscow last weekend. The Rhythmic Expressions 'A' team reached the finals and placed 10th. Full results on the Canadian Aesthetic Gymnastics website: http://www.geocities.com/canadianaesthetics/index.html
The first AGG Worlds took place in 2000 and Kalev is the only Canadian club that has participated in each of the 10 Worlds since then. It's kind of unfortunate that they are the only ones!
As you can see from the website, AGG is quite popular in Ontario. Many young RG gymnasts enjoy the dance aspects of the sport, others prefer the performance aspects of AGG to competitive RG. Several members of Kalev's international teams have never competed in RG but have still been able to progress to this level! Older RG competitors, who are thinking of retiring, find AGG interesting because it enables them to continue using and develop their body skills, perform and compete, while finding that their added maturity gives them an edge when it comes to interpreting and expressing the music.
It would be marvellous if more clubs would pick up AGG and give their gymnasts these opportunities to travel to meets in their own and other provinces and to some of the many international events that take place in this sport, mostly in Europe. Have a look at the Rhythmic Expressions' website to see what they have been up to these past 10+ years! http://www.kalev.net/AGG%20Academy/index.html
